The Short Answer
For couples, book Excellence Punta Cana at Uvero Alto. It is adults-only and all-inclusive, with lagoon-style pools, and its ground-floor Junior Swim-Up Suites have a furnished terrace that opens onto a pool shared with neighboring suites. The trade-off is location: Uvero Alto is at the quiet northern end of the coast, a longer drive from the airport and from Bávaro's restaurants.
- With kids: Majestic Mirage Punta Cana has a 1,000-square-foot Family Club swim-up suite for up to four guests of any age, with an outdoor Jacuzzi. Lopesan Costa Bávaro, right on Bávaro Beach, is the other strong family choice.
- Adults-only on a mid budget: Riu Palace Macao on Arena Gorda.

Weather and Pool Hours
- Air temperature: January highs average about 83 °F with lows around 70 °F; in August, highs are about 90 °F and lows about 76 °F.
- Rain: March is the driest month. September, November, May and October are the wettest.
- Hurricanes: the Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, peaking around September 10.
- Heated pools: none of the resorts here say their swim-up pools are heated, but the sea and the pools stay warm all year.
- Pool hours: at Majestic Mirage and Majestic Elegance the pools are open from 8 am to 6 pm, so there is no evening swim from your terrace.
Getting to Punta Cana's Swim-Up Resorts
- Arena Gorda and Bávaro: Riu puts Riu Palace Bavaro at about 25 km from Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ), or 30 to 40 minutes. Majestic Mirage gives about 26 km.
- Uvero Alto: farther north along the coast, so expect a longer transfer than to Bávaro. Ask your resort for its current transfer time.
- Beach access: Majestic Mirage and Majestic Elegance are about a 5-minute walk from the beach. Lopesan Costa Bávaro, Riu Palace Macao and Ocean El Faro are on the beach.
