Family Resorts Where Kids Can't Use the Swim-Ups
These resorts welcome families, but their swim-up rooms have age limits. They suit parents traveling without the kids, or couples who don't mind children around the main pools.
- Riu: at Riu Palace Costa Mujeres, Riu Caribe, Riu Palace Peninsula, Riu Palace Bavaro, Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas and Riu Palace Aruba, the swim-up rooms are adults only.
- Hyatt Ziva: swim-up rooms at Hyatt Ziva Cancun and Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos are for guests 13 and over, and at Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta 18 and over.
- Ocean El Faro: the swim-up junior suite doesn't take guests under 18.
- Bahia Principe Explore Fantasia: the swim-up suites at this Tenerife family resort are adults only.

Tips for a Swim-Up Suite With Kids
- Check the depth. Swim-up pools are built for adults. Catalonia Grand Costa Mujeres gives its terrace pools as 120 cm, about 4 feet, which is too deep for young children to stand in.
- Check the occupancy, not just the name. A "family" swim-up may sleep two adults and two children but not three kids, or may count teens as adults.
- Remember the pool is in your yard. With small children, a swim-up terrace needs the same watching as any pool.
- Check pool hours. At the Majestic resorts in Punta Cana the pools close at 6 pm.
