The Short Answer
For couples, book Stella Island, an adults-only resort built around a lagoon pool. Its swim-up rooms and maisonettes have a wooden deck with direct access to the water, and the top rooms are overwater bungalows. The lagoon is shared, so your deck is in view of other guests.
- With kids: Phāea Cretan Malia has new swim-up bungalows and a free daily kids' club, and Stella Palace has a family suite for five on a sharing pool, next to an aqua park.
- Your own pool: Amirandes, a Grecotel resort at Gouves, gives its swim-up rooms an individual pool, about 10 minutes from Heraklion airport.

Many Crete resorts close in winter. For warm water from November to April, look at Cancun or Punta Cana instead.

- Summer heat: July highs at Heraklion airport average about 87 °F.
- Opening season: many resorts close for winter. Atlantica suggests visiting from May to October, and Grecotel Creta Palace, for example, reopens for the 2027 summer season.
- Heated pools: Atlantica Caldera Palace has a heated indoor spa pool, but the resorts here don't say their swim-up pools are heated.
Getting to Crete's Swim-Up Resorts
- Heraklion airport (HER): the closest airport for most resorts here. Grecotel says Amirandes, at Gouves, is about 10 minutes away, and Hersonissos is about 25 km east of Heraklion.
- Chania: Aphi Kalli, formerly Atlantica Kalliston, is just west of Chania town, at the other end of the north coast. Chania has its own airport, so check flights into both.
